Chewie, a Pudelpointer, served with the UK Border Force in Hull Port as a Detection Dog, before he retired to his new family in 2021. He is an absolute gent and an integral part of his devoted pack, and he was one of the first retired service animals to join the NFRSA family - we have been there for him ever since! Chewie suffers from quite a bit of arthritis, as well as a few allergies, and he needs medication as well as regular hydrotherapy and acupuncture to keep the symptoms at bay. We love Chewie, and his antics make us laugh, not just from amusement, but the fact his medications mean he is living his best life, pain free and with joy. Coty’s story is one of extraordinary service, loyalty, and courage. From the age of just 10 weeks, she began her career with Kent Police and quickly distinguished herself through her exceptional intelligence and dedication. By 2021, Coty had already made a national name for herself. She took part in the G7 Summit in Cornwall, won categories at both regional and national police dog trials, and achieved outstanding results in tracking and crowd control. But Coty was more than a champion. Throughout her career, she was a valuable frontline asset, tracking down fleeing suspects across fields, through rivers, and helping to locate vital DNA evidence in violent crime investigations. Her determination led to multiple arrests, and her bravery helped protect countless lives. “She was fearless,” says PC Lisa, Coty’s former handler and now her loving owner. “She lived for the job, always the first to leap into action, to sniff out a clue, and to stand between danger and me. She gave everything.” Now enjoying her retirement, Coty remains a true canine hero whose years of dedication and service have left a lasting impact. Frankie was taken in by Dogs Trust Darlington as a stray at just 10 months old. She was later sourced by Northumbria Police for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service to begin her journey as a search and rescue dog. Frankie trained alongside her handler and, by the age of 17 months, had qualified as an Urban Search and Rescue Dog. Her dedication, intelligence, and drive made her a valued member of the team. Unfortunately, Frankie was later diagnosed with hip dysplasia, which brought her operational career to an early end and led to her retirement. Despite this setback, Frankie remains a much-loved and important part of the search and rescue family, and sponsorship helps support her ongoing care and wellbeing.

Hektor served with Police Service of Northern Ireland for 7 Years, he was the best partner his handler could have had on patrol, as he loved his public order duties. His claim to fame was when he was standing on a line with both the TSG and water cannons during the riots in Belfast in 2021, making the front page of most newspapers with his cheeky face! Hektor has saved many lives throughout his career, once tracking with his handler to a young male who was hanging, allowing him valuable seconds to cut him down and save his life. His excited howls as his handler opened the boot had one criminal walk out from behind a house to surrender before he had even opened the hatch – this was typical of Hektor, he was a fierce protector and the best boy. He now enjoys his retirement at home with his handler surrounded by hens, cats, and horses. Hektor loves walks in the local forest, but his favourite place would have to be the beautiful beaches on the north coast of Northern Ireland. Ringo served with Greater Manchester Police for 6.5 years, not only did Ringo work in Manchester but also Scotland on COP26 , Merseyside Police, and with West Midlands Police on various operations. Ringo has been with the same family/ handler from 8 weeks of age, having been purchased from the Metropolitan Police as a puppy, and now he is retired, and enjoying his life of luxury at home. Ringo unfortunately suffers from dermatitis and arthritis, and he needs monthly medications to alleviate the discomfort the two conditions cause, and the NFRSA is proud to help cover those costs.
